Nye County commissioners pre-signed an emergency declaration in preparation for the event that has been dubbed Storm Area 51.
What started as a joke on Facebook with someone calling on people to storm Area 51 has become a three-day event with live music and more in the small towns outside of the military base.
The event is supposed to start September 19.
The 4-0 Nye County Commission vote means the county can declare an emergency without having to hold a special meeting. With an emergency declaration, the sparsely populated county can get help from the state if thousands of people show up to the site.
The county is being briefed almost daily on the event by law enforcement and state officials the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Lincoln County commissioners have already pre-signed an emergency declaration.
