Nevada College Student Arrested For Rifle, Ammo In Vehicle

HENDERSON, NV (AP) — A student at a Las Vegas-area community college is facing a felony weapon charge after police found a rifle and about 2,000 bullets in his vehicle parked on campus.

College of Southern Nevada President Federico Zaragoza said in an internet post the man told police following his 6 p.m. arrest Wednesday that he forgot he had the weapon in his vehicle.

Campus spokesman Richard Lake identifies the student as 27-year-old Shayn David Striegel of Las Vegas.

Zaragoza says passers-by at the school's Henderson campus called police after seeing ammunition magazines in the vehicle. Firearms are barred on Nevada System of Higher Education campuses.
