CCSD Considers Easing Marijuana Use Rules

The Clark County School District is considering easing the policy on employee marijuana use.

Some school board members are calling to change policy in light of cannabis legalization in Nevada.

CCSD regulations currently mandate that use of illegal drugs be grounds for dismissal.

Jon Okazaki, an associate general counsel for the school district, said it should only become the district’s business if it comes into work and negatively affects their ability to do their work.

Members reviewed a presentation about CCSD regulations, state law and federal law regarding marijuana, although the board took no formal action.

The district averages about 15 to 20 discipline cases per year for staff that use medical marijuana.
