CCSD And Teachers' Union Return To Bargaining Table

The Clark County School District and the teachers' union will return to the bargaining table Wednesday in an effort to come to an agreement and avoid a teachers' strike.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the union has agreed to mediation.

The Clark County Education Association has threatened to strike on September 10 if an agreement is not reached.

At issue is pay raises for teachers who have completed professional training and earned a bump in pay, according to the union contract.

However, Superintendent Jesus Jara told KNPR' State of Nevada that the district has a finite amount of money with which to pay for raises for teachers.

On Monday, the school district filed an injunction to stop the union from carrying out a strike. The district is asking a judge to certify that strikes by teachers are illegal in Nevada.
