LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democrat Stacey Abrams says her new voter rights program will put a voter protection team and help hotline in battleground Nevada ahead of the 2020 election.
Abrams, who championed voter rights during her unsuccessful 2018 run for Georgia governor, met with Nevada Democrats and progressive activists in Las Vegas Wednesday as she kicked off her multi-state voter protection program.
Abrams and Nevada Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson told the Associated Press in a joint interview that they want to be prepared for any potential voter suppression or misinformation.
Frierson said Nevada has seen misinformation released in past elections about where and when people can vote.
He says the Democratically-controlled state Legislature has taken steps to try to expand voting, including passing laws this year to allow same-day voter registration and restoring voting rights for felons when they're released from prison.
