Judge Aims To End Nevada Marijuana License Hearing Next Week

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge says she expects next week to finish hearing a case that has dozens of companies that lost bids to open new retail pot stores asking her to stop the state from licensing more marijuana businesses.

Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez on Friday scheduled at least a 15th day of testimony on Monday in Las Vegas.

State taxation officials have defended the process and the people who evaluated and ranked 462 applications for 61 new dispensary licenses last year.

Companies that that didn't get new licenses have so far stalled administrators' efforts to nearly double the number of dispensaries statewide to about 125.

Gonzalez is hearing complaints from several lawsuits claiming bias in the selection process, calling it unconstitutional, seeking damages, or demanding a do-over.
