Investigators Search For Cause Of UNR Dorm Explosion

In Reno, about five blocks of Virginia Street just north of Interstate 80 remain closed Monday, from College Drive to 10th Street, as investigators continue to search for the cause of two explosions that damaged UNR’s Argenta and Nye dorms on Friday.

Eight people were treated for minor injuries resulting from the explosions.  UNR authorities say they don’t yet know the long-term status of the dorms, although they are evaluating Nye dorm for possible use this fall if structural reports are positive.

As a result, dorm housing assignments for the fall semester are being delayed. The first day of moving into dorms for the fall is in just 43 days.
