Reno Property Owners To Pay More In Fees To Fund Improvement Projects

Property owners in downtown Reno are facing an increase in special assessment fees they pay to fund improvements to the area.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that increase is as much as 30 percent for some property owners.

This week the Reno City Council approved the new fees to pay for cleaning and marketing services for downtown.

The money will fund the Downtown Reno Partnership and charges property owners a fee based on their property value.

The DRP cleans sidewalks, markets businesses and tries to direct homeless individuals to services.

Assessments range from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand dollars for casinos and other large businesses. The DRP will see a 15 percent increase in its budget under the new assessment.
