New Traffic Light Planned For Street Where Boy Was Hit And Killed

A new traffic light is planned in Las Vegas near the spot where a 12-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car last month.

Clark County made the decision to add the signal on South Fort Apache Road and Arby Avenue in the wake of the death of middle school student Jonathon Smith.

Smith and two of his friends were crossing Fort Apache outside of a crosswalk when two vehicles waved them across, but a third vehicle drove around, striking Smith and another boy who suffered minor injuries.

The county conducted a traffic study, and found a total of 46 traffic accidents occurred in the area between 2015 and 2017. The county expects the signal will be in place before the summer of 2020.
