Nevada Bills Face Deadline As Legislature Enters Final Days

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers face a Friday deadline dictating whether an array of bills will die or continue in the legislative process.

Some bills have already cleared the legislative deadline as lawmakers push on in the home stretch of this year's session. One would rewrite portions of the state's abortion laws.

Several criminal justice reform bills must receive passing votes Friday from the Senate Judiciary committee to stay alive.

The legislative panel is headed by Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, a Democrat Clark County prosecutor with a reputation for being tough on crime.

It's unknown which bills Cannizzaro will bring up for votes.

A Friday morning committee meeting is expected to reflect how far the leading Democrat wants to go on criminal justice reform.
