A man suspected of trying to find “precious metals” on the Pahrump property of a deceased former casino owner has been arrested.
The Pahrump Valley Times reports that the manager of the property once owned by Ted Binion identified Richard Cleaves as one of three men who trespassed on the land with shovels on March 30.
The men were captured by surveillance cameras, and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested Cleaves on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit grand larceny and destruction of property.
Cleaves formerly worked on the property, and he was previously arrested early in 2017 after he was found digging holes on the property.
It’s unclear if Cleaves and the other two men were successful in finding anything.
Binion died in 1998. He was the son of famous gambler and casino owner Benny Binion.
Binion's girlfriend, Sandy Murphy, and her lover, Rick Tabish, were tried and convicted of his death but in a second trial, they were acquitted. During the trial, it was revealed that Binion had a vault constructed in Pahrump to hold silver, casino chips, and money. Nye County Sheriff's deputies caught Tabish taking the silver out of the vault shortly after Binion's death.
