CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada's governor has created a committee to raise awareness and motivate state residents to be counted in the 2020 census.
Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak on Monday emphasized the need for an accurate counting of the state's population and says the state could lose tens of millions in federal funding if the state population is undercounted.
He signed an executive order on Monday establishing The Nevada Census 2020 Complete Count Committee.
Sisolak says Nevada has seen a population boom in recent years and the state will lean on census data to establish funding needs for schools and infrastructure projects, among other topics.
The nine-member committee will recommend policies and methods for getting the most accurate tally of the population. That will include implementing plans for reaching populations that are hard count.
