YERINGTON, Nev. (AP) — The owner of an animal rescue facility for lions and other large cats in Oregon is abandoning her plans to relocate to Nevada after the Lyon County Planning Commission denied her a conditional use permit.
Bonnie Ringo, owner of the Tiger Preservation Center in Cave Junction, Oregon, wanted to relocate and open the sanctuary north of Yerington.
They Lyon County Board of Commissioners was scheduled to make a final decision on a permit at a May 2 meeting.
But Ringo told the Mason Valley News following Tuesday's 7-0 planning commission vote she no longer wants to move to Nevada.
Lyon County Manager Jeff Page says the county's community development staff originally recommended approving the permit, but later learned there was some litigation in Oregon involving the rescue center that helps rehabilitate tigers, leopards, wolves and other exotic animals.
