Nye County Placed On State's Fiscal Watch List

Nye County is being placed on the state’s fiscal watch list.

The Pahrump Valley Times reports that the designation by the state’s Committee on Local Government Finance is a result of a lack of timely filing of treasurer’s reports and bank reconciliations, which are required to be completed by Nevada Revised Statute.

“Fiscal watch” is a lower-level monitoring of county finances, and it means the state will provide compliance assistance when necessary, rather than exerting control over the county.

Nye County was last placed on fiscal watch three years ago due to several financial issues, including expenditures in excess of budget, a very low county ending fund balance and inappropriate loans of money between the county’s emergency fund and its general fund.

That designation of fiscal watch was lifted in April 2018.
