CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers in the state Assembly have roundly passed a bill requiring electricity companies to have 50 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2030.
The bill approved by the Assembly on Friday now heads to Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, who has indicated his support for the effort. The measure previously passed the Senate in a unanimous vote.
The clean energy standard under the bill will be gradually ramped up to the 50 percent mark.
Sen. Chris Brooks who presented the legislation earlier this year says "climate change is one of the most serious emergencies that our state, our country and our plant are facing today."
Andy Maggi with the Nevada Conservation League said in a statement that "increasing our share of clean energy is a popular, common-sense measure."
