Democratic Candidates Talk Unions, Veterans Issues In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Democrats Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg are pitching themselves to union workers and veterans in Nevada, two slices of the electorate in the early Western caucus state who prioritize policies over personality.

The trio of Democrats held several events around Las Vegas on Monday, marking the first visits to the state for Klobuchar and Buttigieg.

Klobuchar kicked off a gathering of more than 800 airline and rail laborers at the Paris Las Vegas casino-hotel. The workers gave a warm reception to the Minnesota senator as she pitched her infrastructure plan.

She was followed by Sanders, whose rousing, pro-union speech received 10 standing ovations.

Buttigeig, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana and a veteran, toured a Las Vegas nonprofit that provides services for veterans, a population he says deserves more attention from Democrats.
