CARSON CITY (AP) — A portion of the Clark County Commission have voiced general support for considering firearm restrictions on the Las Vegas Strip if Nevada lawmakers give them the power to create stricter firearm laws.
The county would be given such power under a gun bill moving through the Democrat-controlled Legislature despite wide-spread opposition from Republicans and gun rights groups.
Some supportive commissioners say state law prevented the body from enacting regulations following the 2017 mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival in which a gunman used bump stocks to carry out the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Commissioner Tick Segerblom says he's not only in support of firearm restrictions on the Las Vegas Strip, but wants a discussion over adding an assault weapons ban, handgun registrations and ammunition limitations.
