Police body cams are up for debate again in the Legislature.
Senate Bill 242 would conceal the identity of officers by blurring their faces in all video. That would include dashcam, jail and interrogation room footage.
The bill is strongly backed by police unions, but opposed by civil rights groups and open records advocates.

Metro Police are also against it. Chuck Callaway, a lobbyist for Metro, told the legislative committee the bill whittled away manager’s rights in favor of employees.
The proposal also tweaks a law from 2017 requiring all police officers to wear body cameras. It would classify that footage as confidential, though still subject to public disclosure.
The bill was sponsored by Senate majority leader Nicole Cannizzaro.
