Conservationists, NV Legislators Oppose Air Force Expansion

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Conservationists are rallying around a pair of state legislative resolutions opposing the proposed expansion of an Air Force bombing training range they say would threaten big horn sheep and other wildlife at a national refuge in southern Nevada.

The Nevada Test and Training Range covering 4,531 square miles of federal land already includes about half of the 2,031 square-mile the Desert National Wildlife Refuge.

The proposal that must be approved by Congress would withdraw an additional 468 square miles currently co-managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service 30 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
