A Las Vegas Metro police officer and a robbery suspect were shot at the Bellagio Friday night.

Metro says the shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. after the armed suspect robbed a poker cage in the casino and attempted to steal a car in the valet area outside. Four metro officers pursued the suspect and they exchanged gunfire.

Metro says a bulletproof vest probably saved the life of the officer the suspect shot in the chest. Another officer returned fire, hitting the suspect. The officer was treated and released from University Medical Center. The suspect remains there in critical condition.

Metro intends to release more information about the incident in coming days.
