New Reno City Council Member Takes Seat Friday

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno's newest city council member will join the panel for the first time at Friday's meeting.

The council selected 44-year-old Reno attorney Devon Reese last week to fill the at-large seat left vacant by David Bobzien's appointment as director of the Nevada State Energy Office.

Reese was among more than 130 candidates who applied for the seat.

The council decided to appoint a replacement rather than hold a special election partly to save money and shorten the amount of time the seat would remain empty.

Reese ran an unsuccessful campaign for the state Senate as a Democrat in 2016. He says he plans to run for a permanent spot on the city council when the seat comes open again in 2020.
