Sisolak Asks For Help For Students Impacted By Government Shutdown

Governor Sisolak has sent a letter to the heads of the Nevada System of Higher Education and the Nevada Board of Regents, asking them to assist any students in the system’s colleges whose federal financial support is being affected by the partial federal government shutdown.

In the letter, sent Sunday, Sisolak asked the Board of Regents to defer fees and tuition charges, as well as waive any late penalty for any students who are either federal workers or financial dependents of federal workers affected by the shutdown.

Both Chancellor Thom Reilly and Regents chair Kevin Page were supportive of the move, and Page said he would bring a resolution before the Board at their next meeting on Friday.
