Coalition Of Environmental Groups Plan To Sue Over Air Quality In Utah, Arizona

A coalition of environmental groups filed a notice of intent to sue the Environmental Protection Agency this week over air quality in Utah and Arizona.

The groups, led by the Center for Biological Diversity, are giving the EPA two months to act to hold the states accountable for missing deadlines to submit plans to clean up air pollution.

The legal filing comes one day after Utah’s air quality board approved a plan it was supposed to submit last summer.

Utah’s Air Quality Director Bryce Bird said the plan was delayed because of technical issues with the model being used but should be submitted within the coming weeks.

The state’s air quality issues could get a new round of scrutiny if Salt Lake City is awarded the 2030 Winter Olympics.
