Panel Presents School Safety Ideas

An advisory panel presented a set of recommendations to address school safety this week to the Clark County School District.

More than two dozen suggestions emerged at CCSD’s board meeting this week from a panel created by Superintendent Jesus Jara.

Some of the suggestions included adding more school police officers, requiring identification badges and building enhancements.

For now, the suggestions didn’t include a price tag, but Governor Brian Sandoval has earmarked $78 million for school safety needs in his draft budget for the next biennium.

From the list of about two dozen recommendations this week, Jara identified 10 that might be feasible based on initial budget projections.
