Heller Says Trump Rallies Were Highlight Of Re-Election Bid

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Republican Sen. Dean Heller won't say whether he thinks his alliance with President Donald Trump doomed his re-election chances this year but is pointing to strong Democratic enthusiasm and voter registration numbers as the reasons behind his first-ever election loss.

Heller in an interview published Tuesday by the Las Vegas Review-Journal said that the "electricity" that Trump brought to his rallies was the best part of his re-election campaign.

The Republican senator said in the interview conducted last week that he was not actively seeking a position with the Trump administration. He also would not rule out another run for elected office.

Heller's name has been floated as a possible replacement for Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, whose resignation was announced Saturday. Heller's office has not responded to messages seeking comment about whether he's interested in the job.
