Former Sheriff Arpaio Suing News Outlets

Former Phoenix-area Sheriff Joe Arpaio has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking $300 million against CNN, Huffington Post and Rolling Stone magazine.

Arpaio alleges the news organizations acted with malice when they published statements they knew to be erroneous about his 2017 criminal contempt of court conviction.

The suit says reporting by the outlets incorrectly classed the conviction as a felony and one story said Arpaio went to prison for contempt.

Arpaio says the inaccurate references have hurt his chances at possibly running in 2020 for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by the late John McCain.
