LAS VEGAS (AP) — A veteran deputy Clark County public defender is being nominated for the top job in the office.
A county spokesman said Monday that Darin Imlay was picked by County Manager Yolanda King to head the 120 attorneys appointed by courts to represent criminal defendants who can't afford to hire a lawyer.
Imlay didn't immediately respond to messages. His nomination goes to the County Commission for approval Dec. 4.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Imlay was among four office finalists for promotion to replace Public Defender Phil Kohn.
Kohn held the position since 2004 and is retiring amid an investigation that found he behaved inappropriately toward women working in his office.
Imlay is 52. He joined the office in 1996 and spent several years supervising its first domestic violence team. He has headed its juvenile division since January 2017.
