Tax Preparer Sentenced In False Tax Return Scheme

A tax return preparer from Las Vegas was sentenced to three years in federal prison Wednesday for aiding and assisting in the filing of false tax returns.

The U.S. attorney in Nevada, Dayle Elieson, announced the sentencing for Ofelia Ronquillo, who was found to have prepared false income tax returns for clients from 2009 through 2015.

The false returns resulted in clients owing thousands of dollars less in taxes.

As part of the plea agreement, Ronquillo admitted that the total tax loss resulting from her preparation and filing of false returns was more than $2.7 million.

U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Gordon also ordered Ronquillo to serve one year of supervised release and to pay a restitution of more than $16,000.
