Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has been named the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Cortez Masto will steer the committee into a cycle where Democrats hope to take back the majority in the Senate.
Republicans will have no more than 53 seats pending the recount in the Florida Senate race, and a handful of GOP senators are considered vulnerable in a presidential election year.
Democrats announced the rest of their leadership team on Wednesday, but Cortez Masto was still negotiating with Democratic leaders about the position.
She was interested in a spot on the Senate Finance Committee, according to one Senate Democratic source. Cortez Masto won a tough race against former GOP Rep. Joe Heck in 2016 to take the seat previously held by Democratic leader Harry Reid.
