Pumps Keeping Water Out Of Lake Mead Third-Straw Job Site To Be Turned Off

Workers at Lake Mead are preparing to shut off pumps that for three years now have been keeping water out of an underground job site 500 feet beneath the shore.

The move will be another step in finishing up the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s low-lake-level pumping station that would be used if the reservoir shrinks to the point that the two existing pumping stations are no longer viable.

Flooding of the cavern is expected to happen sometime next week.
