New Legislators Get Crash Course In Carson City

New legislators in Nevada got their crash course on the way of the statehouse last week.

Twelve freshman Assembly and Senate members got a three-day orientation in Carson City barely a week after their victories.

The introduction was meant to give them the basics of what they can expect come February when the legislative session begins, from how to use the computers to dealing with lobbyists and the media.

That class is the first in a series of classes the new lawmakers will attend before officially getting to work.

The lawmakers will next take part in a two-day session in December that will involve diving into policy issues and then a final, three-day session in Carson City in January to start looking at things like how the state budgets work and how a bill becomes law.
