Navy To Release Impact Study On Proposed Seizure Of Land For Fallon Naval Air Station

The U.S. Navy has announced it will release a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed military seizure of more than 760,000 acres in Nevada for the Fallon Naval Air Station.

The department plans to hold seven public meetings to inform the public and receive comments about the environmental impact statement.

The meetings start in December and will be held in Hawthorne, Gabbs, Austin, Eureka, Fallon, Lovelock and Reno.

In a statement, the BLM said the Fallon Range Training Complex is the premier range for training in naval aviation strike warfare, the evolution of combat systems has increased the need for larger areas to conduct training.

Environmental groups like the Center for Biological Diversity have said they will fight to protect Nevada’s public lands from military seizure.
