Long Lines In Las Vegas Area As Early Voting Period Ended

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Lines of waiting voters kept early polling locations across the Las Vegas area open past their posted closing times as Nevada's two-week early voting period for Tuesday's general election ended Friday.

KSNV-TV reports that the number of early voters statewide topped 628,000, well above the over 552,000 who cast early ballots in the 2014 midterm election.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that some Clark County voters had to wait more than an hour in some locations.

Some voters stuck around to avoid the possibility of even longer waits on Tuesday, while bailed in favor of casting their ballots on Election Day.

Nevada's ballot includes hotly contested races for a U.S. Senate seat and the governor's office, both now held by Republicans.
