USDOJ Awards $1.7M To Reno To Address Opioids, Gun Violence

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department has awarded the Reno Police Department a pair of grants totaling nearly $1.7 million to help combat opioid abuse and reduce gun violence.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve says the money will help the city address two significant problems affecting not only the region but the entire country.

The three-year opioid grant for about $998,000 will be used to identify the misuse of painkillers through supply and demand reduction, and target outreach in the community. It will involve a partnership with the Washoe County Health District and the University of Nevada Reno.
