Supporters, Opponents Of Legalized Marijuana Work Together On Utah's Pot Policy

Utah Governor Gary Herbert said supporters and opponents of Utah’s medical marijuana initiative have come together to craft a shared vision on cannabis policy.

The governor, legislative leaders, medical marijuana proponents and officials of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints held an event at the state capitol Thursday to mark the announcement.

Talks among the groups have centered on reforms that can be made following the November election, either during a special session or the Legislature’s regular term that begin in January.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports some of the key provisions of the law targeted for amendment include the “grow-your-own” and “affirmative defense” portions.

Lawmakers have also been working on establishing a centralized, state-run operation for fulfilling a marijuana prescription.
