Police Records Show Laxalt Arrested On Suspicion Of Assaulting A Police Officer

Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer in June 1996, according to police report summaries obtained by the Reno Gazette-Journal

Records show Laxalt was 17 years old and living in Alexandria, Virginia when he was arrested along with a woman charged with underage possession of alcohol. 

Laxalt told the Gazette-Journal he was drinking underage at the woman's house when police were called to the home.

He has been public about his teenage struggles with alcohol, including a 1997 DUI arrest in Virginia and his decision to enter a rehab facility at age 18. 

He said the assault charges leveled against him were dismissed.
