Las Vegas Police Reopen Sexual Assault Investigation Against Soccer Star Ronaldo

Police in Las Vegas have reopened a sexual assault investigation from 2009 against Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kathryn Mayorga says she was attacked by Ronaldo in a Las Vegas hotel room that year.

The BBC News reports in 2010 Mayorga reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo involving a $375,000 payment for agreement to never go public with the allegations.

Her lawyers are now seeking to declare the non-disclosure agreement void.

Las Vegas police confirmed they had investigated a complaint in June 2009, but added they had no suspect in the case. A statement said at the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or a suspect description.

The statement went on to confirm the case has been reopened with additional information provided. Ronaldo dismissed the claim in a German newspaper, calling it fake news.
