Teen Charged As Adult In Fatal North Vegas School Shooting

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A 16-year-old student from one Las Vegas-area high school has been charged as an adult with murder in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old student during an after-school fight at a rival school two weeks ago.

Prosecutor Michael Schwartzer says a North Las Vegas judge on Tuesday ordered Sakai Kayin French held on $1 million bail pending an Oct. 9 preliminary hearing of evidence in the case.

French, a junior at Cheyenne High School in North Las Vegas, was not asked to enter a plea. His attorney, Alexis Plunkett, declined to comment.

French is accused of killing Dalvin Brown during an after-school fight Sept. 11 near the baseball field at Canyon Springs High School, which Brown attended.

Schwartzer says multiple students convened for the fight and witnessed the shooting.
