New Ordinance Would Ban Future Short-Term Rentals In City Of Las Vegas

The city of Las Vegas has been the only jurisdiction in Clark County allowing short-term rentals, but that may change.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian has proposed an ordinance that would end Las Vegas’ policy of permitting short-term rentals if they get a city permit.

Tarkanian voted to put the permit process in place last year but changed her mind after complaints from city residents.

The city councilwoman said she wouldn't mind allowing those property owners who have already gone through the permitting process to be grandfathered in.

Airbnb is asking its users to speak against the proposal when it is introduced at an October 9 meeting of the city planning commission.

About 500,000 people stayed at Airbnb rentals in the Las Vegas area last year, the company reports. That’s almost double the amount of visitors in 2016.
