LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge says she'll hold the name of the attending physician at the state's first lethal injection in 12 years under seal while she hears drug companies' challenges of personnel and procedures the state plans to use for a twice-postponed execution.
State Deputy Solicitor General Jordan Smith raised the specter on Tuesday that officials whose names are made public might receive death threats.
Clark County District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez decided drug company lawyers are entitled to know whether the doctor in charge is properly licensed.
But she says the name can stay, in her words, "attorney eyes only."
The ruling came amid arguments about boundaries for hearings next week on three drugmakers' claims that Nevada improperly obtained their products for a use the companies say they don't allow.
