The Las Vegas City Council voted Wednesday to file a lawsuit against opioid manufacturers.
The city hired Eglet Prince Law Firm, which is already representing Clark County, North Las Vegas and Reno in similar cases. The council voted 5-2 on the matter, with Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Councilman Bob Coffin dissenting.
The legal battle against opioid manufacturers seeks to recover money local governments have spent on law enforcement, social and medical services to respond to the use of addictive drugs.

In April the council voted to start a competitive bidding process to choose a firm, and an internal city panel vetted the five firms that responded.
Officials still need to negotiate a contract with Eglet Prince.
