Storm Knocks Out Power, Stops World Series Of Poker Play

More than 40,000 NV Energy customers lost power and the World Series of Poker had to end its fifth day of main-event play early when severe thunderstorms rolled through the Las Vegas Valley Monday night.

The National Weather Service placed Clark County under flash flood and severe storm warnings from around 9 p.m. to just before midnight as the storm brought lightning, torrential rain and winds gusting as high as 68 miles per hour.

McCarran International Airport diverted arriving flights and grounded departing ones.
