Ely Mayor Vetoes Marijuana Dispensary Motion

Ely’s mayor has vetoed a city council motion to negotiate the creation of a marijuana dispensary in collaboration with the Ely Shoshone tribe.

The Ely Times reported that in vetoing the measure mayor Melody VanCamp said she was told by a deputy director of the Nevada Department of Taxation that tribes could not operate a dispensary on state land without going through Nevada’s application process.

The tribe already operates one dispensary on tribal land. The city council plans to revisit the topic at its next meeting next week.
