UNR Looking To Expand Medical School

The University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine is looking to expand its physical space into a 60,000-square-foot, $9 million building.

UNR President Marc Johnson will ask the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents this week to approve the purchase.

University officials say the space is needed as the medical school expands in Northern Nevada as the state builds two separate medical schools.

UNLV’s program was launched last year. The facility would be used for clinical education including teaching clinics where patients would be seen.

UNR said existing space on campus will be repurposed for a clinical research center.  The elected board that oversees the state’s public colleges will meet in Reno on Friday.
