Clark County Considering Plan To Open Thousands Of Acres To Development

Clark County officials are considering a plan to open roughly 39,000 acres of federal land for the growth of the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Commissioners will vote later this month for a congressional resolution to free up more land at the outer edges of the community, including a large tract of land along Interstate 15 south of the valley.

The proposal would also designate new wilderness and set aside tens of thousands of acres as areas of critical environmental concern.

The land is outside the existing disposal boundary established in 1998 as part of the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.

Officials will host an open house on the proposal from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Library on Flamingo Road.
