Clark County Commission To Vote On Public Land Resolution

Clark County Commissioners is expected to vote Tuesday on a resolution addressing nearly 39,000 acres of federal land.

The resolution would ask Congress to redesignate how the land along Interstate 15 in the southern part of the Las Vegas Valley can be used.

Under the proposal, the Bureau of Land Management would allow the land along I-15 to be used by private developers. However, it would also set aside about 370,000 acres of county land for conservation. It would also expand the Moapa Band of Paiutes Reservation and protect more land near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

According to the Nevada Independent, county staff have been working on the proposal for more than a year.

If approved by the commission, the resolution would ask Nevada's congressional delegation to introduce the land bill in Congress.
