The Clark County School Board got its first look at a draft policy on gender diversity during a meeting Thursday night.
The draft policy is required by a state law passed in 2017. Under the law, school districts must craft guidelines for students whose gender expression does not conform to the gender they were assigned at birth.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the trustees voted 4-to-3 to advance the proposed guidelines to a meeting in August, at which time the board might act on the suggested rules.

Turnout at yesterday’s meeting was high and public comment was protracted on both sides of the debate.
The state is also working on its own guidelines.
