Special Prosecutor To Handle DUI Case Of Las Vegas Lawyer

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A special prosecutor will be responsible for the DUI case of a Las Vegas attorney who often defends drunken driving suspects.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports special prosecutor Daniel Gilliam has handled thousands of DUI cases as an assistant city attorney in Henderson.

Attorney John Leo Duffy was arrested March 3. A criminal complaint shows he was charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane.

The Nevada Attorney General's Office was first asked to handle the case because Duffy works closely with the vehicular crimes unit of the Clark County district attorney's office.

The attorney general's office declined the request, which led to the Gilliam's appointment.

Duffy's attorney, Jay Siegel, has told the newspaper he is confident he and his client would "have a positive resolution of this matter."
