The man for whom the Smith Center for the Performing Arts was named has died.
Fred W. Smith died Sunday night in Santa Monica, California. He was 84.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports he died from heart disease.

Smith lived in Las Vegas for decades. He was board chair of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and allocated $150 million in donations to help open the Smith Center in 2012.
Nevada Public Radio was the recipient of funding from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation in 1996. The funding paid for the construction of KNPR’s studios on the College of Southern Nevada campus.
