Report: Brothels Generated $390,000 Over 2 Years For Nye Co.

The five brothels operating in Nye County generated more than $390,000 in taxes and fees for the county over the past two years.

A study was released today by the Nye County Board of Commissioners, which compared incoming revenue with the cost of about $31,000 for government staff time spent on things like hearings, inspections and lawsuits.

The presentation did not, however, include numbers from 2018 – which would add to the spending numbers due to pending lawsuits between brothel owner Dennis Hof and Nye County.

The Las Vegas Sun reportsCommissioner Lorinda Wichman ordered the study to see if it was financially feasible to keep brothels legal in the county. Commissioners are considering a ballot initiative that would ask voters whether or not to ban brothels in Nye County.
